KAGAMI - "Time Machine" EP rollout

How we built a nostalgic world reminiscent of 90s Japanese City Pop, from scratch.

Client KAGAMI

Label Dontaku Records

Agency Fuki Collective

 Assignment:

Create an immersive world for Kagami’s Time Machine. An EP Inspired by Japanese city pop from the 80s with a Daft Punk-esque twist.

Visualizer

We took inspiration from City Pop icon Tatsuro Yamashita’s iconic animated music video (link) and created a full 20-minute 8-bit visualizer, designed as a narrative journey through the album. It was released on YouTube, and clips were adapted for Spotify Canvases and stage visuals, enhancing the listening experience across platforms.

Live Session

Realising their talent as producers also shined in their live performances, we decided to take this to the internet.

We hosted a FUKI x KAGAMI Live Session event in a cafe in Rotterdam. This turned into a series of short form content for KAGAMI and the launch of a new series, the “FUKI Live Sessions“.

Avatar

Did you spot that? The KAGAMI blimp can be spotted throughout the visualizer. We chose to create a characterization of the Time Machine, imagining it as a blimp, and used it as a key element in the EP’s world.
